Truth Time

My profession often puts me in a position to see people at both their best and their most vulnerable.

I love really digging into the strategy and goals behind each session I shoot. This often leads to deep and meaningful conversations with my clients and I am here for it!

Getting in front of a camera at any time, especially for professional lifestyle brand photos can feel intimidating. Lately though, I’ve been hearing more than just general nerves and angst amongst my women-clientele. What I’m hearing is straight up negative self-talk.

As much as hearing negative self-talk makes me cringe, I can also say that I fully get it. I continue to work through my own criticisms, self-doubt and lack of love for my body. However, over the past couple of years, I came to a point where I realized that my negative self-talk and falsehoods around my body image were robbing me of properly showing up as the person and business owner I strive to be.

And… I ain’t got no time for that!

In an effort to propel myself toward accepting my WHOLE self, I made a simple commitment. I pledged to get in front of the camera more often.

Here’s the truth. It felt scary, but mostly it felt freeing as hell!

I have big dreams for my business, and I imagine you do as well. It can feel vulnerable to put yourself out there, especially as a personal brand. Our insecurities and fears of imposter syndrome can stop us from making meaningful progress forward.

Here are some simple tactics I’ve used to help me through negative (and untrue) feelings/thoughts:

  • Get in front of the camera regularly, no matter what

  • Stop saying things like “I’ll book my session after I lose the weight.”

  • Show the camera your bright smile and big personality.

  • Love and accept your body for exactly how it is today.

  • Honor your existence in this crazy world with gorgeous photos, pick your favorite images and share them!

Here’s the truth - the imperfections you see in yourself are 99% in your own head. That extra weight or the grey hairs, mean very little to someone who is looking to invest in your business.

Pushing through these feelings will allow you and your business to step fully into the world and shine bright! You deserve it, your customers and future customers do, too.
